Getting around

Excursion

Optional

Nassau's cruise dock (Prince George Wharf) puts you directly downtown — Bay Street, the historic district, and Junkanoo Beach are all a walk away, with no tender or transfer required.

Getting from the ship

To Junkanoo Beach

Ships berth at Prince George Wharf, immediately beside the city rather than in a separate port zone. You pass through the Arrivals Terminal and step out onto the Nassau waterfront, with Bay Street directly behind it. Which berth you get changes the length of the walk out, not whether it is walkable.

Walkable from ship: Yes

Exploring Nassau, Bahamas

Simplest approach

Walk. Nassau Cruise Port itself places the Straw Market a few steps from the port, the Public Library about five minutes on foot and the Queen's Staircase around thirteen. Central Nassau needs no taxi, shuttle or booking at all — which makes this one of the easiest independent port days in the Caribbean.

Best DIY choice

Downtown Nassau

Walk straight out. Bay Street, the Straw Market and the historic core are all within a short walk of the terminal, per the port's own distances.

Short crossing

Paradise Island

Across the harbour rather than walkable. Official taxis and a water taxi both serve it from the port area — worth deciding before you disembark rather than negotiating on the quay.

Arrange transport

Farther beaches and island sites

Beyond the downtown core you are into taxi or tour territory. Sensible, but a different kind of day from the walk-out one.

Practical notes

Recommended visit duration

Half a day covers the beach and downtown comfortably

Crowds

Junkanoo Beach can get busy when several ships are in port at once.
