Why this port matters

Larger ships dock about 8km from the Old Port — not walkable — but a free shuttle plus Marseille's own metro/bus network make the connection quick and genuinely reliable.

The main cruise terminal sits too far from town to walk, but a free shuttle plus Marseille's metro make the connection to the Vieux-Port quick and well-organized.

More details

Larger ships dock at the Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal, about 8km from the Vieux-Port — not walkable. A free shuttle runs every 15-20 minutes to the Joliette area, taking roughly 15-25 minutes, from which it's one metro stop (2-3 minutes) or a short walk to the Vieux-Port itself. Public buses (lines 35/36) and taxis are also available as alternatives. Smaller ships may instead dock at the closer Joliette terminal, genuinely walkable (20-30 minutes) to the Vieux-Port.

Return risk

Low

Main risk

Shuttle capacity on multi-ship days

The shuttle, metro, bus, and taxi options are individually reliable, but shuttle queues can build when several ships are in port the same day — the metro/bus alternatives are a genuine backup if the shuttle line looks long.
