The Dockyard itself — shops, the National Museum of Bermuda, restaurants — is a short walk from the ship, with the ferry terminal and bus stop only a few minutes away. Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda's best-known beach, isn't walkable, but Bermuda's public bus and ferry network is well established and easy to use independently — no taxi or rental car needed (tourists can't rent regular cars in Bermuda).
Getting from the ship
To Horseshoe Bay
Ships berth at the Royal Naval Dockyard, at King's Wharf or Heritage Wharf. The Dockyard is a self-contained visitor area rather than a town, and the SeaExpress ferry terminal sits near the entrance to the cruise pier — so the onward transport is a short walk from the gangway.

Exploring King's Wharf, Bermuda
Simplest approach
Use the public ferry. Bermuda's government-run SeaExpress runs from the Dockyard terminal to Hamilton year round (Blue Route) and to St George in season (Orange Route), and the Hamilton crossing is substantially quicker than the equivalent bus. Buy tokens or a combined bus-and-ferry pass at the Dockyard Visitor Services Centre, or through the Government of Bermuda's Shorelink app, before you set out.
No transport needed
Royal Naval Dockyard
You are already there. The Dockyard's own attractions, shops and the Visitor Services Centre are all at the pier, which makes a complete low-effort day if you want one.
Best DIY choice
Hamilton
The Blue Route ferry runs year round and is markedly faster than the bus for the same journey. It is the single most useful independent move from this port.
Check the season
St George's
The Orange Route ferry connects the Dockyard directly with St George, but only from around April to October. Outside that window the trip becomes a longer journey via Hamilton, which changes the day considerably.
Bus from the Dockyard
South Shore beaches
Route 7 leaves the Dockyard along the South Shore and serves the well-known beaches directly, so a beach day needs no taxi or tour.
Practical notes
Recommended visit duration
A half day covers the Dockyard and a beach trip comfortably; Bermuda cruises are sometimes docked overnight, which allows more
Accessibility
The Dockyard's main paths are walkable and stroller-friendly; onward travel to the beaches requires the bus or ferry system.
Crowds
The Dockyard tends to be less crowded at midday than Hamilton, and ships docked here typically have fewer passengers ashore than Hamilton-berthed ships.
