Top sights

Family Fun

South Bank

3-4 hrs

Almost 15 hectares of riverside parkland with free barbecues, playgrounds, the magenta bougainvillea Arbour, and Streets Beach, a pool with city skyline views. The cultural precinct sits in it too: Queensland Museum, the State Library and QAGOMA. The single best use of a Brisbane port day once you have paid for the transfer.

Nature & Wildlife

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

3 hrs plus travel

Opened 1927 and, in its own words, the world's oldest and largest koala sanctuary, at Fig Tree Pocket about 12 km from the CBD — so a second vehicle leg beyond the terminal transfer, in the opposite direction from the city. Free-range kangaroo feeding, plus dingo, crocodile and raptor talks. Weigh it against South Bank rather than trying both.

Beautiful Scenery

Brisbane River

1-2 hrs

The thread that ties the city together and the one way to see it without a road. Lone Pine's own listing records a 75-minute scenic river cruise reaching it from the Cultural Centre pontoon, and the CityCat network runs the same water. Worth knowing the river is an option before defaulting to a taxi for every leg.

Excursion

Recommended

The Brisbane International Cruise Terminal is at Luggage Point, about 21 km and half an hour from the CBD. There is no train, bus or ferry to it and no port shuttle — taxi, rideshare or a booked tour are the only ways in and out.

Return risk

Moderate

Main risk

Taxi and rideshare are the only way back

With no public transport of any kind to the terminal, a taxi or rideshare is the sole fallback if a plan runs late. If you go in independently, arrange the return rather than assuming a car will be waiting.

Getting from the ship

To South Bank

Taxi

Dedicated rank about 120 m from the terminal entrance.

Rideshare

Designated pickup point beside the taxi rank, reached by an undercover walkway.

Public transport

None. The Port of Brisbane confirms there are no public transport connections to the terminal.

To South Bank

Public transport: Not practical

Walkable from ship: No

Tender port: No

Exploring Brisbane

Simplest approach

Taxi or rideshare straight to South Bank, which puts the parklands, Streets Beach and the Cultural Precinct within one walkable area, then a booked car back.

Practical notes

Recommended visit duration

4-5 hours to make the transfer worthwhile

Accessibility

The port provides assistance for passengers using wheelchairs or mobility aids, with assistance animals or prams — arrange it in advance through your cruise line. Accessible bays are provided in the set-down area and two passenger boarding bridges serve the ship.
