Downtown Basseterre is a genuine 5-10 minute flat walk from the pier — among the easiest Caribbean ports to explore on foot. The rainforest and beaches need a short taxi.
More details
Ships dock directly at Port Zante, a purpose-built pier at the edge of downtown Basseterre — walking into town (The Circus, Independence Square, the main shopping streets) takes about 5-10 minutes on flat, paved ground. Taxis line up at the terminal for destinations farther out: Frigate Bay (the closest beach) is a quick taxi hop; the rainforest zipline area is about 25 minutes; Brimstone Hill Fortress and other island sights are a longer taxi or tour. Taxis are not metered — agree the fare before setting off.

Low
Main risk
None significant
Taxis are readily available at the terminal and distances are short — one detailed source puts the odds of a missed call at roughly 1-2%, driven mainly by weather, not port logistics.
